Toshkovski: MoI will respond to all challenges, security situation currently not threatened

Skopje, 3 September 2024 (MIA) – The Ministry of Interior (MoI) will respond to every challenge it faces, within its competences, said Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski. According to him, the security situation in the country is not threatened to such an extent that there is a need to convene the Security Council.

Toshkovski told reporters on Tuesday that if there are security challenges, the MoI will deal with them.

"The Ministry of Interior will respond to every single challenge it faces, within its competences. We have shown so far that we can face all challenges and resolve them accordingly, and this will continue in the future as well. There's been recent information about riots. Will we deal with them – yes," said the Minister.

As regards the issue of convening the Security Council, he said he backs President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova's position that there's currently no need for that.

"I believe there is no need to convene that body at the moment. There's been information and announcements, but I think that at this moment the security situation is not threatened to such an extent that there is a need to convene the Security Council," Toshkovski said.

On announced investigations against high-ranking officials, the Minister said the question is whether they will be conducted in a legal procedure.

"Investigations are ongoing and will be underway against former officials, current officials, people who are not officials, legal entities, natural persons. It is normal to have investigations. The question is whether those investigations will be conducted in a legal procedure, whether those investigations will be processed. If we have investigations and procedures that will ultimately result in removing corrupt judges, public prosecutors, officials, etc. from social life in Macedonia, that means we have achieved the goal," said Toshkovski.

Regarding the procedure against Parliament Speaker Gashi's security detail chief for the events at the Skopje Airport, Toshkovski said the case was resolved.

"Everyone has the right to make mistakes, but the system should not make mistakes. In this case, the system shows that it works, which was not the case in the past. The person in question has been suspended from work, criminal charges have been filed against the person, I hope that the Prosecutor's Office will proceed within their competences, as well as the court. This case is resolved," Toshkovski said.
