Toshkovski meets IOM representatives

Skopje, 25 June 2024 (MIA) - Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski held a working meeting on Tuesday with Laura Lungarotti, Sub-Regional Coordinator for the Western Balkans at the International Organization for Migration (IOM), who was accompanied by IOM Head of Mission in North Macedonia, Sonja Bozhinovska, the Ministry of Interior said in a press release.  

The IOM representatives congratulated Minister Toshkovski on his election, voicing support for the reforms announced at the Ministry of Interior. 

Lungarotti stressed the significance of good cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and the IOM, particularly in terms of border management. 

She told Minister Toshkovski that currently the IOM is focused on the area related to voluntary return of migrants, as one of the main priorities of the European Union, and expects successful cooperation and support from the Ministry of Interior in this area.

The IOM representatives pointed out that the material and technical assistance provided to the Ministry of Interior so far through EU-funded projects will continue, adding that such support may be increased in the near future.

Minister Toshkovski extended gratitude for the IOM's support to the Ministry of Interior. 

He pointed out that the Ministry of Interior will work towards strengthening the capacities for securing state borders, particularly in the area of ​​integrated border management, and in fulfilling this goal, support from the IOM will also be needed, reads the press release.
