Toshkovski: Joint border controls system with Serbia to become operational on July 5

Skopje, 25 June 2025 (MIA) - Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski said Wednesday that the “one-stop shop” joint border controls system with Serbia is expected to officially become operational on July 5.

“The final ratification of the agreement we previously signed with my [Serbian] counterpart Ivica Dačić was done yesterday. I hope that on July 5 we will have an official opening of the one-stop shop system with Serbia, which, with regular use, will lead to a much faster transfer of citizens on that border. This is currently the busiest border crossing, and the systems will make things easier in terms of the speed of flow of passengers,” the Minister told journalists.

Toshkovski stressed that a similar system is already operational on the border with Kosovo.

“Simply put, we will be protecting our entry, while Serbian police officials will protect the entry to Serbia, and we will be able to exchange information very quickly. I am glad that with my counterpart from Kosovo we inaugurated the one-stop shop which really functions as it should on the two border crossings we have with Kosovo,” Toshkovski said, adding that there are no more congestions on the border with Kosovo as a result.

The Interior Minister said the country aims to implement a similar system on the border with Albania.

“We are working hard with police officials from Albania, and the implementation of this kind of a smart system is planned for the two border crossings we have with Albania. I hope that by the end of the summer we will be able to launch a test phase. A lot will also depend on the formal adoption of acts within the Macedonian Parliament and the Albanian Parliament and I hope we will be able to make such a system operational with Albania as well,” Toshkovski said.
