Bucharest, 6 December 2024 (dpa/MIA) - Romania's Constitutional Court on Friday annulled the results of the first round of the presidential election, which was won by far-right candidate Călin Georgescu.
A far-right, pro-Kremlin candidate, Georgescu won a surprise victory in the vote on November 24 after a campaign run mainly on TikTok.
There was due to be a run-off vote on Sunday between Georgescu and rival candidate Elena Lasconi, but the court has ruled that the whole vote will have to be rerun.
The public prosecutor's office announced on Thursday that it had opened an investigation into Georgescu based on information from the Romanian secret service and other security agencies.
