Three fires currently active in North Macedonia
Skopje, 18 August 2021 (MIA) – Despite the rain that fell across the country on Tuesday, three fires are still active in North Macedonia – near the village of Raovikj in the municipality of Saraj, the village of Patishka reka in the municipality of Sopishte and the villages of Rakle, Nikodin and Toplica in the municipality of Prilep, Crisis Management Center (CMC) spokesperson Nadica Vchkova told a press conference on Wednesday. The Raovikj fire, she underlined, is still burning on inaccessible terrain. “On Tuesday afternoon, wind fueled the fire and redirected it towards Matka,” Vchkova said. She underlined that the fire near the village of Patishka reka is still active. “Residents of the village of Sonje reported during the night that the fire was still burning, but with lower intensity. There’s no danger of it spreading towards houses. Teams from the national park ‘Jasen’ headed to the scene this morning,” the spokesperson stressed. The fire on the territory of the villages of Rakle, Nikodin and Toplica is burning with low intensity, with only smoke coming from the inaccessible ground and no danger of it spreading. “A team from PE National Forests – Prilep has been sent there to monitor the fire,” Vchkova noted. The portion of the fire on the mountain of Goten closest to Strumica has been localized. “Smoke is still being registered in the Berovo portion of the fire, but currently there’s no danger of it spreading. Strumica firefighters and policemen, as well as Vasilevo local self-government units, representatives from the Ministry of Forestry and Water Economy – Strumica, the Protection and Rescue Directorate and the forest enterprise ‘Belasica’ are in the field,” the spokesperson said.
