Skopje, 5 July 2023 (MIA) - North Macedonia's Judicial Council at a session on Wednesday set the list of candidates for the election of two new members of the Council, after the resignations of Supreme Court judge Mirjana Radevska-Stefkova and Appellate Court judge Zoran Gerasimovski.
A Commission was also set up during Wednesday's session to conduct the election, which was decided to be held next Thursday, July 13.
According to the candidate list, judge Nakje Georgiev from the Supreme Court is the only candidate from the ranks of the supreme judges. There are two candidates including Kavadarci-based Court judge Lazar Nanev whose objection was accepted at the session after his candidacy was initially not taken into account due to an incomplete application, as well as Skopje-based Civil Court judge Antoneta Dimovska.
Eight members of the Council voted in favor of the objection, whereas two other, including former Judicial Council president Vesna Dameva, were against.
"Since April 26, the Judicial Council has been faced with a great challenge. I decided to remain silent on this issue today and to express my opinion only through voting and I will vote against the adoption of the objection," said Dameva, who was also against the proposed candidate for member of the Judicial Council from the ranks of the supreme court judges.
Judicial Council Vice President Hanif Zendeli chaired the session, as Judicial Council President Sashko Georgiev was absent.
The Judicial Council is composed of 15 members. The mandate of elected members lasts for six years, with the right to reelection.
The election of two new members scheduled for July 13 is to complete the composition of the Judicial Council.
