Skopje, 11 June 2025 (MIA) – Ponikva resort is being repurposed into a rehabilitation center for the people injured in the March 16 deadly fire in Kochani. A team of doctors will provide care and psychological support of the patients.

The government at yesterday’s session tasked the Interior Ministry with putting the resort in Ponikva, which has 27 rooms and 56 beds, at disposal of the Health Ministry for treatment of patients needing additional medical services from June 10 to August 20.

If the medical teams and health workers decide it is necessary to extend the period of rehabilitation of the patients, the government will extend the decision, it said in a press release Wednesday.

“It’s our duty as government to offer and provide healthcare. The patients won’t pay a denar, the Interior Ministry and the government will cover the costs providing accommodation and meals for the patients as well as meals for the medical staff. The citizens have always been and will remain a top priority,” said the press release. 

It is our commitment, said the government, to work with responsibility and dedication rather than engaging in political accusations on daily basis with certain opposition parties that have, unfortunately, trying to score points from the tragedy.

“From day one we said we focus on the citizens, their needs and their demands. We continue to change Macedonia. The country has embarked on the path to changes,” said the government press release.
