TAV to present master-plan for Skopje and Ohrid airports by year-end

Antalya, 20 September 2024 (MIA) - TAV Airports has announced it is drafting a master-plan for development of the Skopje and Ohrid airports together with its majority shareholder, French ADP Group, and expects it to be completed by the end of 2024, followed by its presentation to the Government.

TAV Airports CEO Serkan Kaptan told a press conference in Antalya that the company has operated on the Macedonian market since 2010 and has managed to develop the country's airline sector.

"We have brought in new airlines, opened over 40 new destinations, resulting in a five-fold increase in the number of passengers - from about 640,000 in 2009 up to 3.1 million in 2023. The covid-crisis hit us hard but the number of passengers and flights has started to rise as of 2022. Despite all obstacles, we have not stopped working with enthusiasm and perseverance, for the purpose of continued growth and development of the Macedonian airports and the economy in general, as well as strengthening the ties between Turkey and friendly Macedonia," said Kaptan.

TAV Macedonia CEO Nejat Kurt said the goal of the master-plan is to further develop the airline industry in the country.

"Analyses will show what are the requirements for the Skopje and Ohrid airports and then we will present this to the Government. Our goal is to make these airports regional aviation hubs," said Kurt.

TAV airports will also continue to invest in ensuring high-quality and competitive services at both airports, which have led to a number of Airport Quality Service awards for the Skopje airport presented by the Airports Council International (ACI) over the past decade.

TAV Airports has serviced 2.1 million passengers at the two airports in the first eight months of 2024, a four-percent increase compared to the same period in 2023, along with a 12-percent increase in the number of flights.
