Taravari: I believe we will start constitutional amendments in December

Skopje, 24 October 2024 (MIA) - According to the Minister of Health, Arben Taravari, after the elections in Bulgaria and the elections in the United States, a solution will be found that will be a way out of the country's deadlock, and the constitutional amendments will start in December.

"Let's be completely honest, the problem is not whether the Bulgarians will be included in the Constitution, that is not the problem at all. We were in favour of the Egyptians and the Croats being included in the Preamble. That is not the obstacle, the obstacle is the historical issue between Bulgaria and Macedonia. And that's the whole thing that doesn't work and makes it impossible for negotiations to happen. I believe that after the elections in Bulgaria and the elections in the United States, a solution will be found that will be Macedonia's way out of this deadlock. I believe that we will start the constitutional amendments in December," Taravari told Telma TV's Win-Win show on Thursday.

He said the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's messages were very clear.

"The message was clear, we are welcome to start the negotiations, but the condition is that we make the changes to the Constitution. It is very legitimate on the part of the Prime Minister to ask for guarantees. But not guarantees from 2018 and 2019, we need more serious guarantees," said the Health Minister.

He believes that the country deserves a confirmation from Brussels and Washington that there will be no additional requirements.
