Skopje, 19 September 2022 (MIA) - Talks with Bulgaria over a price of electricity from the country are not yet finished. Another online meeting is due tomorrow with my Bulgarian counterpart. It is very important to act in the spirit of good neighborliness and enhancement of cooperation between the neighbors in settling such situations, Economy Minister Kreshnik Bekteshi said after it was reported yesterday that Bulgaria and North Macedonia have failed to reach a deal on the price of electricity, set to be exported to the country by Bulgarian producers. He said Monday that there's good will for the two countries to reach an agreement in their interest to tackle the energy crisis, especially during the coming heating season. The Minister called several media headlines, published on Sunday, "untrue." "North Macedonia has never asked to pay for electricity according to stock market prices, because it is what we have now. We already have an agreement with Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia and Kosovo so as not to have interruption as regards border capacities, meaning the stock markets are open. Speculation that there will be a 15%, 20%, 30% drop on the market is untrue," Bekteshi said. He added that negotiations are led according to the companies on the free market in terms of quantity and in terms of price. As to why North Macedonia and Bulgaria haven't reached a deal, the Minister said, the European Commission has already announced measures and Bulgaria as EU member is required to meet them. "We're waiting to see what the measures will be aligned with the European Commission in order our potential agreement to be in line with these measures." On September 5, the prime ministers of North Macedonia and Bulgaria, Dimitar Kovachevski and Galab Donev, agreed that Bulgaria will export some 200 megawatt hours of electricity to North Macedonia.
