Sweden to assist country’s EU accession in environment with EUR 1.7 million assistance

Skopje, 4 December 2024 (MIA) - The Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning announced financial assistance from Sweden of EUR 1.7 million in support of North Macedonia's EU accession in the field of environment.
Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Izet Mexhiti and Swedish Ambassador Ami Larsson Jain signed Wednesday a memorandum for cooperation for the implementation of the "Support for North Macedonia's EU accession in the field of environment - Phase Two" project.
"With Sweden's assistance, we will work on strengthening the Environment Ministry's capacities in coordinating and managing the EU accession process and facilitating negotiations in Chapter 27, as well as improving intersectoral and cross-sectorial cooperation. We will also work on capacity building and cooperation between policymakers and stakeholders at local, national and regional levels. The project activities will focus on the ministry’s EU integration sector for managing biodiversity and climate adaptation," the Ministry for Environment and Physical planning said in a press release.
The project’s implementation will last until May 31, 2027.
According to the press release, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) will provide the financial assistance of EUR 1.7 million, while the project will be implemented by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (SwEPA) in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning.ssh/ad/
