Skopje, 9 September 2025 (MIA) - Arson is suspected in the Drisla landfill fire, said Protection and Rescue Directorate (PRD) director Stojanche Angelov on Tuesday, pointing to the soaring temperatures over the summer that did not result in the landfill self-ignition.

"The Skopje firefighting brigade is doing everything in its power to localize the fire in Drisla and prevent it from spreading. Extinguishing operations are ongoing," said Angelov.

He said earlier that the fire is not large, while adding that putting out a blaze in a landfill is a complex process due to the chemical and biological processes within the zone, which could lead to flammable gases.
