Students won’t have a spring break

Skopje, 8 August 2024 (MIA) – Education Minister Vesna Janevska said Thursday that students will not have a spring break and the school year will end of June 10, except for the graduates.
“There will be no spring break. The final surveys conducted among the parents showed that they are not in favour of it, and the older students feel the same way. Therefore, this year, there will be no spring break,” Janevska said, responding to a journalist’s question after inspecting the construction activities of the sports hall at Naum Ohridski elementary school in Bulachani village.
She underlined that they have taken the citizens’ opinions into account and had promised transparency from the beginning.
“As a government, we committed to transparency, and we are upholding that by adapting the educational process to meet the citizens’ needs. If they believe that a spring break is inconvenient for both children and parents – interrupting the children’s learning continuity, causing issues for parents with younger children, and not aligning with holidays for family time – then they see it as more problematic than beneficial. In this regard, we decided that this year, the school year will run from September 2 to June 10 for everyone except for the graduates,” Janevska explained.
The previous government decided that elementary and high school students would have a spring break from April 29 to May 6, with the school year for elementary students ending on June 17.
