Strategic cooperation agreement signed with Hungary during Szijjarto's Skopje visit
- The governments of North Macedonia and Hungary signed Friday in Skopje a strategic cooperation agreement during Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto’s visit to the capital, where he was hosted by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Timcho Mucunski.

Skopje, 13 June 2025 (MIA) – The governments of North Macedonia and Hungary signed Friday in Skopje a strategic cooperation agreement during Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto’s visit to the capital, where he was hosted by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Timcho Mucunski.
The meeting, the two ministers told a joint news conference, focused on the excellent bilateral relations expressing satisfaction with the intensive political dialogue and development sectorial cooperation. The three-decade friendship and excellent trade exchange, which has reported a rising trend recently, were praised.
Both ministers concluded that the Macedonian – Hungarian partnership is based on strong political ties and developed economic cooperation, which will be further boosted in the coming period.
The two ministers also discussed the prospects and challenges of the country’s EU integration process and Hungary’s heightened and unwavering support, aimed at our country opening accession negotiations with the EU, so as to pave the way for stabilization and better perspective of our country and the countries in the region as well.
Mucunski said he was confident the support would resume in the coming period having in mind the action plan on sharing EU accession knowledge, signed recently by the ministries of foreign affairs and European affairs of the two countries.
The ministers also discussed the countries’ excellent cooperation within NATO, aimed at tackling current security challenges and maintaining European and transatlantic stability.
As part of the visit, the Ministry of Education and Science of North Macedonia and Hungary’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade signed a memorandum of understanding within the Stipendium Hungaricum Program for 2026-2028.
