Stranded vehicles, fallen trees, torn down roofs after Skopje storm
Skopje, 30 August 2022 (MIA) – Four cars, including one with children in it, have been stranded, while another 15 persons are stuck in a van alongside other cars in an underpass in downtown Skopje after the storm that engulfed the capital on Tuesday afternoon.
The city’s fire fighters are intervening at several locations, whereas the first aid units have received reports over minor injuries of citizens.
The Crisis Management Center (CMC) has told MIA that the 112 emergency number has received calls over fallen trees, torn down roofs, stranded vehicles and flooded basements.
Skopje Mayor Danela Arsovska has summoned the city’s Crisis HQ for an emergency meeting.
The CMC has said the storm also hit the towns of Shtip, Veles, Demir Hisar, Sveti Nikole.
The National Hydrometeorological Service has said the weather instability will extend through Friday, with torrential rains, thunders and strong winds to hit the country in the afternoon hours.
