Stojanovski: Burn patients receiving treatment at '8 September' hospital are stable

Skopje, 19 March 2025 (MIA) - The patients injured in the Kochani nightclub fire who are receiving treatment at the '8 September' hospital in Skopje are stable in terms of vital parameters. Together with teams from specialized centers from abroad, surgeries are being performed to remove nonviable tissue from the burn injuries allowing the wounds to slowly begin to heal, said the head of the '8 September' hospital, Sinisha Stojanovski.

Speaking at Wednesday's press conference at the Government, he noted that 15 patients were surgically treated this morning, and such an intervention is to be performed on three more patients during the day.

"Over the past few days, not only were patients monitored for potential deterioration, but the injuries of the patients who were not critical in the first phase, nor were they in a life-threatening condition, had to be repaired. The processes of triage and monitoring went in parallel with stratifying patients according to the severity of their clinical condition. Wound dressings must be done regularly and the tissue that has died off must be removed to allow the wound to slowly begin to heal. Surgical interventions are also in this direction," Stojanovski said.

The interventions, he noted, are performed as a result of the extent, i.e. the size of the percentage of the body affected by burns, and not because patients are in a life-threatening condition.
