Skopje, 2 June 2025 (MIA) – The State Statistical Office (SSO) is hosting Monday a formal academy to mark the 80th anniversary of its establishment. It is also organizing a Statistical Conference “25 Years of Gender Data” on Tuesday to mark the milestone.

“The anniversaries marking eight decades since establishment and 25 years of collecting gender-disaggregated data is an opportunity to remind ourselves of the crucial role played by official statistics in democratic societies and its contribution to creating public policies based on credible data. The ceremony will have an international format, considered a recognition of the important role of Macedonian official statistics at national and international level,” said the State Statistical Office adding that the anniversaries are marked in partnership with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, also known as UN Women.

Monday’s event will see addresses by Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, SSO head Dejan Stankov, Steffen Hudolin, the Head of Cooperation in the Delegation of the European Union, and Rita Colombia, UN Permanent Coordinator, followed by two panel discussions with heads and deputy heads of European statistical offices, renowned experts from the country and abroad, and representatives of the academic community and the civil society participating.

President Gordana Siljanovska – Davkova will deliver an address tomorrow, said the institution.

“Eight decades of official statistics is a testament of social changes, of economic growth, of demographic change, of social trends and of the country’s every attempt to build a better future. From hand-collected data to digital platforms, from paper statistical yearbook to open data bases available to all,” the Director of the State Statistical Office, Dejan Stankov, has told MIA.

2025, he said, has been named a tear of Macedonian statistics, which will feature several events, activities and workshops in order to raise awareness about the importance of official statistical data and how they play a role in decision making.
