Speaker Xhaferi presented with EC’s progress report on North Macedonia
Skopje, 25 October 2021 (MIA) – EU Ambassador David Geer on Monday officially handed over to Parliament Speaker the European Commission’s (EC) progress report on North Macedonia after it was presented at the European Parliament last week.
Geer handed over the report to Xhaferi today because of the Speaker’s previous engagements at the Conference of Presidents of Parliament of the Council of Europe member states, held Thursday and Friday in Athens.
“The report was assessed as being positive, objective and realistic as regards Parliament, being the central institution where debates of all political parties take place. The interlocutors discussed the Jean Monnet process and the targets achieved as well as the expectations from the next series of Jean Monnet process of dialogue, stressing the importance from active involvement and interest about the process of all parties in Parliament, it said in a press release.
Speaker Xhaferi also referred to the local elections process as well as the process of verification of terms of the new lawmakers after several MPs were elected as mayors in the October 17 local elections. He mentioned the Parliament’s agenda following the second round of local elections and its planned agenda to adopt the state budget.
Geer and Xhaferi also concluded that the EU Delegation and Parliament have always had open and direct communication, which is in the interest of the country’s EU integration progress, said the press release.
