Speaker Xhaferi praises Ilinden values of championing diversity
Skopje, 2 August 2021 (MIA) – Our country is a fusion of diversity where every unique part grows and develops from its roots that have been confirming the longevity and perseverance of the people that have been living in this territory, Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi said in an address delivered in front of Parliament as North Macedonia is celebrating the 118th anniversary of the Ilinden Uprising and the 77th anniversary of the Anti-Fascist Assembly for the National Liberation of Macedonia (ASNOM). Speaking at the central observance in Skopje, Xhaferi said Republic Day is being born with every new day and every new generation. He said it was no easy task to protect peace, strengthen security all the while maintaining economic stability over the years. No matter how small the country is, Xhaferi stressed, North Macedonia is important from a geostrategic point of view and has been affected by global developments. “However, the desire for a common free and independent country, where human rights and liberties are equal for everyone regardless of one’s ethnic, religious or any other affiliation has led to our country being pointed out as a successful story in the region,” he said. Mentioning the resolution, adopted in Parliament last month, establishing the Macedonian national positions in the context of the blockade of the country’s EU integration bid, Xhaferi described it as being “the best confirmation that forces have been joined to maintain the dream of all known and unknown heroes.” Referring to North Macedonia joining NATO, the Speaker said the country is on the right track after making difficult decisions to unblock the Euro-Atlantic integration process as a show of political maturity. “We have one country and it is everyone’s duty to protect it for us and for future generations. We owe it to everyone who had fought for this country, for a society of all citizens, where our children, grandchildren and future generations deserve to live, grow and prosper in North Macedonia, a modern country of European citizens,” Speaker Xhaferi concluded. Several state delegations kicked off Monday observances in Skopje to mark Republic Day by laying wreaths on the monument of Metodija Andonov-Chento, the ASNOM monument and the monument of Nikola Karev.
