Skopje, 11 May 2023 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi met Thursday with Swedish Ambassador to North Macedonia, Ami Larsson Jain.

Speaker Xhaferi stated that the bilateral relationships between the two countries are excellent and that he hopes these meetings contribute to their further development, Parliament said in a press release.

The Speaker explained the process of EU integration, expressing hope that by autumn of 2023 the Parliament of North Macedonia will find the right consensus and become a part of EU.

Ambassador Larson thanked for the reception and expressed readiness for further cooperation and full support for North Macedonia's road to European integration.

"The Ambassador stated that Sweden, which currently presides over the EU Council, gives its full support to North Macedonia, and believes that this is the moment for the county to become a full member of the EU," reads the press release.

Xhaferi and Larsson also spoke about North Macedonia's screening process within EU, about the continued commitment to reforms, etc.

"The common finding was that the country is facing the important process of constitutional amendments that are foreseen by the negotiating framework, and which require the consensus of political stakeholders in order to finally achieve the country's second strategic goal - full EU membership, in addition to the already successful accession into NATO, the press release adds. ssh/sk/
