Skopje, 30 June 2023 (MIA) – Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi in his address Friday at the International Conference in Spain marking International Day of Parliamentarism, urged that the momentum and dynamics of the enlargement process is maintained, especially in terms of North Macedonia’s EU membership by 2030, but also for the rest of the countries from the region that will fulfill the membership criteria.
“Otherwise, we risk that the desired victory and protection of European values, which have been nurtured for more than 70 years on our continent, will be seriously threatened by third parties,” said Xhaferi.
Xhaferi said the country, which has been a candidate country since 2005, is continuously working on fulfilling the Copenhagen Criteria on its Euro-integration path.
“The proof of our respect for European values is our complete alignment with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy, including with the sanctions on the Russian Federation. In terms of the EU Acquis, according to the assessments the country has a high level of harmonization, and this process should continue with the opening of negotiating chapters,” said Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi.
