Ohrid, 6 December 2024 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi urged political parties on Friday not to “toy” with the country’s security situation, noting that parties who try to create a political career from ethnic tensions don’t wish their country and people well.
“Recently we’ve witnessed some attempts to artificially create tensions, in my view. I think the citizens in our country get along well, they get along despite the differences in their various cultures. All political parties who are trying to create a political career from ethnic tensions don’t wish their country and their people well,” Gashi stressed.
Asked about the request for a leaders’ meeting by the leader of opposition party SDSM, Venko Filipche, to discuss the security situation, Gashi said he doesn’t feel it’s for him, as Speaker of Parliament, to respond, adding that it is up to the leaders of the political parties.
“I think that dialogue is good, we should meet, see each other and talk. This is good for the political parties but also for the country’s political culture as a whole,” Gashi said.
