Skopje, 26 February 2025 (MIA) - As part of an official visit of a parliamentary delegation to the UK, Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi met Wednesday with Daniel Greenberg, Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards.
Greenberg shared the experiences of the UK Parliament in this area, the manner and methods of its work, how the public in the United Kingdom is informed about the procedures initiated and the results thereof. He highlighted the basic principles of work guiding the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, which include: openness, honesty and integrity and objectivity. He pointed out that a basic requirement for a code of ethics to be realistically implemented is for it to be short and fully implemented, the Parliament said in a press release.
Speaker Gashi and the delegation briefed the Commissioner on the Code of Ethics for the Members of Parliament, as a tool that provides guidelines for the conduct of MPs, as well as rules for responding to unacceptable behaviour by MPs, reads the press release.
Participants in the meeting exchanged views on improving the ethics and integrity of MPs' work, responsibility and commitment to building a parliament open to the public.
The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards is an independent officer of the UK House of Commons, appointed for a fixed term of five years. The Commissioner is responsible for the Register of Members' Financial Interests and conducts independent, fair, thorough and impartial investigations into alleged breaches of the Rules of Conduct by MPs, the press release adds.
