Speaker Gashi meets German MP Kuban

Skopje, 17 July 2025 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi met Thursday with Bundestag member Tilman Kuban, accompanied by Konrad Adenauer Foundation Head of Skopje Office, Daniel Braun, highlighting Germany's important role in supporting North Macedonia's strategic goals of NATO membership and the EU accession process.

In this regard, Speaker Gashi welcomed the appointment of Manuel Sarrazin as the country's Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, which reaffirms Germany's commitment to the region, the Parliament said in a press release.

Gashi and Kuban highlighted the significance of the Berlin Process initiated by former German chancellor Angela Merkel and its positive results in the region. In addition, the Speaker thanked the Bundestag for its 2023 resolution supporting North Macedonia's EU accession while affirming the Macedonian identity, culture and language.

MP Kuban conveyed the greetings from Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, who initiated the visit for the purpose of demonstrating the clear will shown by the incumbent German authorities to push the enlargement process forward.

The German MP said there is a need for a new enlargement vision and acceleration of the country's European path, noting the importance of opening the Fundamentals cluster for the purpose of real reforms in the fields of public administration, judiciary, fight against organized crime and corruption, through broad consultation with relevant societal stakeholders.

Interlocutors agreed that excellent relations between the countries' parliaments would continue to develop in the coming period in many areas of mutual interest. They also recognized the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Skopje for its contribution to democratic processes over the course of the past decades, reads the press release.
