Speaker Gashi meets Czech Parliament delegation
- North Macedonia's Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi met Tuesday with a delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic led by MP Radek Vondráček, Vice-Chairperson of the Committee.
Skopje, 26 November 2024 (MIA) - North Macedonia's Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi met Tuesday with a delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic led by MP Radek Vondráček, Vice-Chairperson of the Committee.
"North Macedonia's European integration process was in the focus of talks between Speaker Gashi and the Czech parliamentarians, highlighting the significant support of the Czech Republic, as well as the entire Visegrad Group, for our country's NATO membership, as well as the ongoing logistics for full-fledged membership in the European Union," the Parliament said in a press release.
Speaker Gashi expressed gratitude that the Czech Republic, as a member of the European Union, is promoting policies in a principled manner in the context of the Western Balkan countries. He also expressed expectation to further intensify support. Especially in relation to North Macedonia, given the current challenges that the country faces on the European integration path, despite the great capacity for compromises shown in the past period.
Vondráček pointed out that the Czech position on long-term support for the integration processes of the country and the region as a whole is well known.
Interlocutors also noted that this year, North Macedonia and the Czech Republic celebrate 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, and over the years the friendship and mutual respect between the two countries has not only been reaffirmed, but also deepened.
In addition, participants in the meeting exchanged views on inter-parliamentary cooperation, pointing out that communication between the working bodies and the parliamentary cooperation groups is very important, given that the country is firmly committed to intensifying the reform process, which is also important for the European integration path.
