Spasovski: Institutions should take measures if there really are indications of destabilization

Skopje, 9 August 2024 (MIA) - Coordinator of the SDSM parliamentary group Oliver Spasovski said that if there really are indications of destabilization of the state in the fall, the Security Council and the Council for the Coordination of Security and Intelligence Services should meet as a matter of urgency, but firstly the Public Prosecutor's Office should be immediately involved. According to Spasovski, measures must be taken immediately if there are threats to the territorial integrity, sovereignty, peace and stability of the country.

Commenting on Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski's warning that he expects destabilization of the country in the fall, which will be carried out by DUI in order to come to power, Spasovski pointed out that if no measures are taken, it will only mean that it is a matter of nothing other than politics.

"I believe it is very frivolous of a Prime Minister to come out and present such information about destabilization, and in addition, for the Minister of Interior to confirm such information, while at the same time, no measures are being taken by the state authorities. If it is true, if there is a threat of destabilization, disruption of the constitutional order or anything else that can threaten peace in the country, territorial integrity and sovereignty, health and the life of citizens, then a crime is being prepared. So, it is necessary to react immediately, those who are preparing this should be detained," said Spasovski.

According to him, the fact that as a country we have not yet constituted a Security Council indicates that there is nothing serious regarding which the Council should be convened.

"The important thing to mention is that a Security Council has not yet been constituted, and information indicates that there is no intention of convening a Security Council. I guess that indicates that the President has adequate information because she is briefed precisely by the Intelligence Agency, and probably those briefings have shown that there is nothing serious regarding which the Security Council should be convened. The second option is that such seriousness may not be recognized, which I do not believe is the case. Because if we look back, we have had a migrant crisis, fires... and VMRO-DPMNE as the opposition has always called for the convening of the Security Council, to discuss such issues," Spasovski added.

He notes that if the warning is true, the institutions should react immediately, otherwise this is just misleading the public.

"If this is true, the institutions should react immediately. We demand action. If something is happening, take measures to prevent it from happening. Protect the country, protect the citizens," said Spasovski.
