Skopje, 26 July 2022 (MIA) – Today we remember one of the most difficult days in the history of our capital city Skopje. On July 26 in 1963, 59 years ago, at 5:17 am local time, a devastating earthquake took the lives of over 1,000 people and many were left homeless as Skopje was shattered, Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski posted on Facebook.
“Global aid and support from 87 nations across the world transformed Skopje into a city of solidarity, and we all carry the lesson learned from it, for almost 6 decades now, that the safety of the citizens is a top priority and only together we can build the society for all. Let us not forget the victims, let us not forget the humanity of the world,” reads Spasovski’s post.
