Slaveski: Efforts to bring inflation under three percent, encouraging signs from Gov’t

Skopje, 26 August 2025 (MIA) - National Bank Governor Trajko Slaveski told journalists Tuesday that measures are being taken to bring inflation under three percent, adding that he sees encouraging signs from the Government to that end.

“We really want to bring inflation down below 3 percent. There are encouraging signals from the Government, with less populism in terms of pressure for wage increases. Most likely, by the end of the year, there will be efforts and measures to align the budget within the planned budget deficit. That’s the fiscal aspect. And everything we are doing with additional macroprudential measures, such as maintaining caution with the base interest rate on treasury bills, which we haven’t changed since January, in a way all of this is aimed at reducing inflation to an acceptable level. The acceptable level is one where it doesn’t affect people. There will always be mild creeping inflation, let’s say around two percent, which we won’t perceive and which won’t influence our decisions and expectations,” Slaveski said.

The Governor confirmed that the country’s system within the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) will become operational during December.

“It was announced that we are officially entering SEPA as of October. Due to the preparations of the system, we will need two more months and it will become operational towards the end of the year, in December,” Slaveski said.
