Skopje, 26 November 2024 (MIA) - Incumbent Skopje Mayor Danela Arsovska told journalists Tuesday she won’t be seeking reelection at the country’s next local elections in 2025, adding that the situation in the country is “extremely polarized” and she doesn’t intend to work with people “who are only capable of sabotage”.
“I would like them to show and prove that they will be able to realize what they are saying so they receive the support of the citizens at the next elections. When I ran for mayor, I had the support of VMRO-DPMNE, but, unfortunately, they weren’t able to go beyond themselves. Their egos are too big to allow someone to work without telling them what to do and how to do it. Thank you, but I would never want to work again with such people who are only capable of sabotage,” Arsovska said.
Asked whether the events surrounding Skopje’s Public Transport Enterprise (JSP) mark the beginning of the campaign for the local elections, Arsovska said she wouldn’t get into it, but stressed that “the citizens are smart enough and will be able to determine who the people are that could’ve solved the public transport issue over the past three years”.
“If someone says the issue will be solved next year after the local elections, ask them why they didn't solve it before. The Council was able to adopt a decision on the procurement of new buses three years ago. You should ask them why such a decision wasn’t made. If the City of Skopje was able to function and carry out procurements without the Council’s decision, this would’ve been done by now,” Arsovska said.
