Skopje, 25 October 2023 (MIA) - The energy sector is one of the Government's priorities, Economy Minister Kreshnik Bekteshi told conference "Empowering Tomorrow: Navigating the Renewable Green Transition", organized by the Macedonian Association for Renewable Energy Sources (MARES) in Skopje on Wednesday.
Minister Bekteshi said one of the Government's main goals is green energy investments.
"One-third of the megawatt capacity projected in the Energy Development Strategy has been installed in only a year-and-a-half," said Bekteshi and added that over 170,000 households are currently supplied with green energy across the country.
According to the Energy Development Strategy, the green transition is to be realized by 2030, replacing non-renewable sources with renewables. Shown in numbers, an installed capacity of 1,000MW of coal-powered energy should be replaced with 4,000MW of renewable-powered energy.
For the purpose of faster transition, eight investors with a joint portfolio of about EUR 1 billion have set up MARES.
