Skopje, 14 May 2023 (MIA) — A little over half of citizens — 55.7 percent — are against the negotiating framework the government agreed on with the European Union and believe it puts the country in a subordinate position, according to a new poll commissioned by the Sitel 'Detektor' TV show.
The telephone poll was conducted among 1112 respondents on May 2–6 by Skopje's Institute for Political Research.
According to a Detektor press release, the poll found that 28.1 percent of respondents supported the negotiation framework but Macedonians and Albanians had different views. "Whereas 70 percent of Macedonians are against the negotiation framework, as many as 75 percent of Albanians support it," the release says.
Of the respondents, 33.9 percent said they did not have enough information about the negotiation framework.
"Macedonians are better informed than Albanians," the release adds. "Of the ethnic Macedonians, 66.2 percent said they had enough information about the French proposal that lifted the Bulgarian veto, whereas 44.5 percent of the ethnic Albanians said they were not sufficiently informed."
Nearly half of the citizens, or 48.4 percent, said there was a lot of misinformation on this issue, and 26.9 percent said there was no misinformation, the poll found. mr/
