Siljanovska Davkova: Instead of red lines, parties to agree on what to say abroad

Siljanovska Davkova: Instead of red lines, parties to agree on what to say abroad

Ohrid, 3 September 2025 (MIA) -- President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova said there was no need of adopting a declaration in Parliament on the country's red lines regarding the EU talks that SDSM said it would submit. "After all those white lines, speaking about red lines now is absurd," Siljanovska Davkova said.

"We already have a declaration, and not only one but we have passed several declarations in Parliament and they were not respected. We did not respect even the referendum results, let alone red lines.

"I don't understand what a red line means in this sense. I particularly don't understand the reasoning that if our neighboor does indeed resort to a veto, we will stop the negotiations," she said.

According to the president, the government and the opposition should find a consensus on how to act outside of the country.

"If they acted like this after the meeting in the Government we all were happy about, the EU would have acted differently as well," she said.

"If all the opposition leaders and all party leaders spoke in unison that we think such-and-such, that this is the best solution, they surely would have acted differently toward us.

"But to listen to this reasoning that the proposed constitutional amendments with a delayed effect were not accepted... The head of the EU, Costa, said the amendments with a delayed effect were an exceptional move. Is there really anyone out there thinking we would have proposed constitutional changes with a delayed effect if there had been no constitutional basis for it? Even the first constitutional amendments had a delayed effect. Event he Prespa ones had a delayed effect," Siljanovska Davkova said.

Asked to comment on the European Court of Human Rights decisions that have not been respected, she wondered about the point of the Strasbourg Court if its decisions did not apply to all countries.

"I thought the court's decisions were final and enforceable and applicable to all states. What kind of rulings are these that don't apply? What kind of court is this, issuing rulings that don't apply?" she asked. mr/
