Skopje, 28 May 2025 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova met with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Astana on Wednesday, discussing overall development of cooperative and friendly relations.

Pointing to investment opportunities offered by the country and the importance of the multipolar world, President Siljanovska Davkova highlighted readiness on the Macedonian side to further develop and deepen bilateral relations, Siljanovska Davkova's Office said in a press release.
"She called for intensifying economic cooperation and increasing trade, which is relatively small, with a deficit on the Macedonian side. Just as Kazakhstan is the bridge between Asia and Europe, we can be the bridge with Central and Eastern Europe due to our position," the President said after the meeting, as cited in the press release.
The host, President Tokayev, pointed out that Kazakhstan is interested in developing a comprehensive partnership with the country, adding that "we consider your country a reliable partner on the Balkan Peninsula."

He stressed the importance of further deepening economic relations and increasing trade through concrete steps, including direct meetings between companies from both countries and establishing a Kazakh-Macedonian Economic Council, the press release reads.
Siljanovska Davkova welcomed Kazakhstan's successful cooperation with the European Union, being at the top of the list of its trading partners, especially given the Macedonian aspirations for full-fledged membership in the European family.

She pointed out that in today's complex geopolitical environment, the integration of the region in the EU is key to ensuring a peaceful and secure future. She stressed that it is therefore important for the Western Balkans to have a clear perspective of EU membership, not only for the region's well-being and progress, but also for the broader stability and security of Europe.
In the context of the significant anniversary - 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the President expressed interest in exchanging official visits at the highest level.
