Skopje, 7 October 2025 (MIA) - SDSM Skopje mayor candidate Kaja Shukova said Tuesday the country's capital is gearing up for a significant urban transformation through a series of infrastructure projects, which, she noted, aim to position Skopje as a modern, connected and functional city.
"Skopje is a city with spirit, history, and an enormous untapped potential. Our vision is for Skopje to develop smartly, with a plan, clear goals and real projects that bring change," Shukova pointed out.
Shukova and the party's Gazi Baba mayor candidate Vlatko Mitovski, who presented their vision for the City and the municipality in the Avtokomanda settlement on Tuesday, said their focus will be on construction of a modern Congress Center to open Skopje to the world and place it on the map of international congress destinations.
"This is an economic, tourist and cultural resource that will place our capital on the map of congress destinations. With the Congress Center, Skopje can host large international conferences, scientific and professional gatherings and cultural events. This means that Skopje will ensure events and investments," said Shukova.
In addition, she announced a project for a new Skopje Fair in the municipality of Gazi Baba, as a regional hub for innovation, tourism and domestic industry.
"The fair will feature multipurpose halls, conference rooms, cultural and commercial content, space for small and medium-sized enterprises, domestic industry and creative sectors. This project opens up new markets, connects local producers with foreign partners, and creates conditions for young people to stay and work right here, in Skopje," Shukova said.
Gazi Baba mayor candidate Mitovski presented a vision for Gazi Baba as a municipality with European standards.
"Our vision for Gazi Baba is not a mere list of promises, but a plan with clear and achievable projects that will change the appearance and quality of life in the municipality," Mitovski pointed out.
He announced, among other, construction of a modern transfer station for garbage and bulky waste, to improve hygiene and urban order, as well as construction of a new bridge to connect Gazi Baba and Aerodrom, and a new traffic solution for a direct highway connection between Hipodrom and Indzhikovo.
