Shielded room to be put into use in Parliament

Skopje, 20 October 2024 (MIA) - A shielded room will be put into use in the Parliament on Monday, with Speaker Afrim Gashi set to address the event.

The shielded room is a result of the strategic partnership between the Parliament and the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF), demonstrating the joint efforts to strengthen democratic governance and ensure comprehensive mechanisms for accountability in the country's security sector.

SCAF Skopje Office manager Vlado Gjerdovski, former speaker Talat Xhaferi, Swiss Ambassador Veronique Hulmann, DCAF Ljubljana director Andrej Rupnik and Directorate for Security of Classified Information director Stojan Slaveski will also deliver remarks.

The shielded room is designed to meet the strict security requirements set by NATO and the EU, including the integration of technological safeguards, whereas the physical space is build using materials that prevent unauthorized surveillance and wiretapping, ensuring that communication is confidential and protected from external threats. The project involves the best practices in the security sector management and provides adaptability of future progress in the surveillance over security and intelligence, said the Parliament.

The room will primarily be used by the Parliament and the committees working with classified documents, but it can also be used by other state authorities upon the Parliament's approval.
