Shaqiri takes part in panel on European Day of Languages
Skopje, 26 September 2022 (MIA) - Education Minister Jeton Shaqiri participated Monday in a panel discussion on September 26 – European Day of Languages, organized by the EU Delegation in Skopje.
EU Ambassador David Geer, Swiss Ambassador Véronique Hulmann Marti, and head of the Language Implementation Agency Ilber Sela also participated in the panel.
“Knowing the languages of other nations and people is a virtue, because it allows getting closer to their culture and easier communication and understanding with more people. It is also an advantage, because at a time of internationalization and pronounced mobility of human capital, language skills, in addition to computer skills, are the most important skills that provide easier access to highly valued and paid jobs. Therefore, the message that we send today, as well as every day, which is promoted and spread through educational institutions, is that people, and particularly young people, should invest time in learning languages,” said Shaqiri.
The Minister stressed that the importance of world languages is indisputable, and in terms of the country, being a multi-ethnic country, the study of the languages of the various ethnic communities is particularly important, the Ministry of Education and Science said in a press release.
“It brings personal benefits, but it also brings togetherness, creates unity, harmony and strengthens the state. This is one of the goals to which we are committed as a Government. Bringing people closer begins by overcoming the language barrier, i.e. mastering the languages they speak,” said Shaqiri, pointing out that this is precisely why institutions insist on creating multi-ethnic school environments, introducing subjects for learning the languages of other communities.
The European Day of Languages – September 26 is celebrated at the Council of Europe’s initiative.
