Skopje, 17 October 2023 (MIA) - Minister of Education and Science Jeton Shaqiri, who is paying a four-day visit to the United States, met with Congressman Pete Sessions in Washington on Tuesday. 

Talks concluded that the United States will continue to support the development of the educational system in North Macedonia in the future. Continuity of the financial and logistical support that has been made possible through several U.S. organizations will be ensured, and efforts will be made to directly connect educational institutions in both countries.

"Shaqiri briefed Sessions on the current situation in the country's education system and the changes taking place, particularly in the area of ​​primary education. He pointed out that the focus is on the creation of new curricula and textbooks, improving the educational infrastructure and raising the motivation for work among the teaching and professional school staff," the Education Ministry said in a press release. 

Congressman Sessions expressed assurance that he will commit to connecting educational institutions in the state of Texas with schools and faculties in North Macedonia, noting that exchange of experience is important, especially for improving the quality of teaching.

The meeting is part of Minister Shaqiri's agenda, who is visiting the United States upon the invitation of several U.S. politicians. Shaqiri is expected to visit the U.S. Senate, meet with several senators and congressmen, and address students at a renowned U.S. university, adds the press release.
