Shahpaska-Donev: Economic COVID-19 measures produce positive results in both North Macedonia and Bulgaria
Skopje, 1 December 2021 (MIA) – Countries’ policies in the field of labor relations and measures for mitigation of the COVID-19 pandemic effects on workers and the economy were in the focus of a meeting between Minister of Labor and Social Policy Jagoda Shahpaska and Bulgarian counterpart Galab Donev in Sofia on Wednesday. Minister Shahpaska said North Macedonia has kept about 80,000 jobs through the six sets of economic measures worth EUR 1,2 billion in support, even resulting in the lowest unemployment rate on record – 15.9 percent, the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy said in a press release. Minister Donev said Bulgaria has also managed to maintain a low unemployment level and protect its economy during the crisis. Interlocutors also discussed the issue of the social dialogue and the process of alignment of labor regulations with the EU law. In addition, ministers also tackled the possibility of regulating labor migration between the two countries, thus ensuring more freedom and safeguards for citizens, reads the press release.
