Several vehicles confiscated in N. Macedonia as part of global INTERPOL operation against vehicle trafficking
Skopje, 6 September 2022 (MIA) – A total of 1.540 checks on persons and 1.467 on vehicles were carried out on the territory of North Macedonia, as part of a global police operation coordinated by the General Secretariat of INTERPOL. Additionally, 10 vehicles and one motorcycle have been confiscated on suspicion of forgery, said the Ministry of Internal Affairs in a press release.
The Ministry informed that in cooperation with the Customs Administration, the Public Prosecution, the State Market Inspectorate and the Public Revenue Office, they participated in a global operation against vehicle trafficking, coordinated by the General Secretariat of INTERPOL. The operation was carried out in 77 countries, during which 1.121 stolen cars and 64 motorcycles were identified.
“During the inspection of a lot for the sale of vehicle parts it was determined that there were 62 vehicles with evaded duties, with which the legal entity and the person responsible for the legal entity committed a criminal offense under Article 278-b paragraph 1 and paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code,” said the Ministry in the press release.
The Ministry called on the citizens to be careful when buying used vehicles or importing vehicles from abroad, especially when it comes to the reliability of the documents and the origin of the vehicle in accordance with the legislation of the country from which it was imported. ad/ba/
