Seventy scholars to attend 56th Macedonian language summer school

Skopje, 14 August 2023 (MIA) – Seventy foreign Macedonian and Slavic language scholars from 18 countries will attend the summer school of Ss. Cyril and Methodius University’s 56th International Seminar on Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture. Classes will begin Aug. 17 and will run through Aug. 31 in Ohrid.

 

Seminar participants include scholars from China, USA, South Korea, Italy, France, Greece, Turkey, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Ukraine, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Albania and Czech Republic.

 

According to organizers, the number of participants has grown compared to previous years.

 

"This year's attendees include university professors, prominent researchers from the Slavic world of linguists, writers and culturologists, and translators," organizers said in a press release.

 

Macedonian studies scholars will give 11 lectures on Macedonian language, literature and culture, mainly on the 120 years since the publishing of Krste Misirkov's "On Macedonian Matters," 120 years since the Ilinden Uprising, and 100 years since the birth of Aco Shopov.

 

The school will also organize a language workshop. For participants interested in Macedonian folklore, a course on Macedonian folk dances will also be held.

 

The opening of the 56th International Seminar on Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture will be on Aug. 18 at noon.

 

After the summer school ends, scholars will attend the 50th International Scholarly Conference at the Congress Center in Ohrid on Sept. 1-3.

 

The International Seminar on Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture summer school is financed by the Ministry of Culture and the Ohrid Municipality. ssh/mr
