SDSM MP Mitreski: Parliament to pass conclusions tasking gov't with what steps to make in coming period
Skopje, 6 July 2022 (MIA) - The French proposal, which at the same time is also European proposal, won't be changed, because it has been already tabled. We're discussing what kind of conclusions Parliament will make before tasking the government with what kind of steps to make in the coming period, MP Jovan Mitreski, SDSM parliamentary group coordinator, stated before Wednesday's meeting on party working groups.
Because it is a serious process in the country, he said, I expect all political parties and parliamentary groups to act responsibly because the future of the country and the future of its citizens is at stake.
Mitreski said his party will offer draft-conclusions in line with the state strategic commitment to EU membership demanding that the bilateral historical issues are excluded. "We will offer conclusions demanding unconditional respect of the determination for separate historical, linguistic and cultural characteristics of the Macedonian people," he told reporters.
Mitreski reiterated bilateral issues are not included in the negotiating framework. However, he added, the dilemma is being created or opened in the public.
"Parliament once again will confirm that bilateral issues will be excluded from the framework and we will task the government with excluding bilateral issues related to history and education," Mitreski said, adding the Parliament Speaker is yet to schedule a session.
MP Arber Ademi, DUI parliamentary group coordinator, reiterated speaking to reporters that the Macedonian language is clear in the negotiating framework "without any footnotes."
"They say we don't have a start of the negotiations. We will open negotiations, which was yesterday also confirmed by the European Council President saying both Skopje and Tirana would open negotiations immediately with a screening process," he said.
Voicing concern over the spread of fake news, Ademi said it is also fake news that the protocol is included in the negotiating framework. "The negotiating framework says the European legislation will be translated into Macedonian, which confirms that Macedonian will be an official language in the EU," he stated.
Democratic Alliance (DS) leader Pavle Trajanov speaking to reporters said he proposes that the process should be prolonged in order enough time to be provided for a serious debate in which all arguments and views of the parties will be presented before conclusions are made.
The conclusions, he added, should be overwhelmingly endorsed in Parliament and they should task the government with making efforts to include them into the negotiating framework. If it failed, it'd mean it couldn't approve the proposal.
Trajanov said that DS, LDP and DOM have been preparing conclusions, adding: "It is a handicap that we still don't have the protocol, which is crucial as to whether the framework will be accepted or not."
