SDSM against opening of Albanian Academy of Sciences and Arts

SDSM against opening of Albanian Academy of Sciences and Arts

SKopje, 29 July 2024 (MIA) - The Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts (MANU) should remain the only institution in which renowned scholars from all ethnic communities are members. MANU should also be an institution that must not be partisan or be abused by individuals for daily political needs. This is something that happened in the past, said SDSM regarding announcements about establishing an Albanian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

According to SDSM, what the public should know is what Mickoski has promised before the government formation regarding this request of the 'Worth It' coalition.

"This is not the first time that 'Worth It' and its leaders have mentioned an Albanian Academy as a project, but Mickoski and VMRO-DPMNE have stubbornly kept silent. What other demands, which are unacceptable for the majority of citizens, has Mickoski kept silent about or secretly accepted? The biggest patriots, Mickoski and Dimitrievski, seem to have turned a deaf ear to these requests of 'Worth It' for the sake of a comfortable position in the government, and now they are trying to score with some kind of non-acceptance. The only question is what will be the price for it and whether there is another request under the table if the academy project fails," said SDSM.

Representatives and party leaders within the 'Worth It' coalition held a meeting with the Albanian Academy of Sciences and Arts Association over the weekend in Tetovo, announcing that the municipalities will fund this association, as well as activities aimed at establishing the academy as a public institution.
