Kiev, 12 July 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Russia focused its regular overnight attacks on western parts of Ukraine, local authorities said on Saturday.

The mayor of the western city of Lviv, Andrii Sadovyi, said that a kindergarten had been damaged as well as residential buildings.

He wrote on Telegram that there was a large fire in the railway station district, but as far as is known there were no injuries.

The Ukrainian air force had previously warned of ballistic missiles and drones from Russia targeting the west, and there were also strikes in the neighbouring Volyn region.

According to the mayor of the regional capital Lutsk, Ihor Polyshchuk, a residential building was completely destroyed by an explosion, and windows were damaged on neighbouring houses.

There was also damage from attacks in eastern and central Ukraine.

Kharkiv was hit by drones and glide bombs in the early hours of Saturday, injuring two, according to military governor Oleh Syniehubov.

Several residential buildings were damaged in the Kirovohrad region south of Kiev.

Citing the Polish air force, the Kyiv Independent newspaper reported that the neighbouring country had deployed fighter jets to protect its own airspace.
