Rexhepi in partial isolation, won’t carry Macedonian flag at Tokyo Olympics
Tokyo, 22 July 2021 (MIA) – Judo fighter Arbresha Rexhepi, member of North Macedonia’s Olympic team, has been placed in partial isolation due to close contact with a person infected in COVID-19 on her flight to Tokyo and won’t be carrying the Macedonian flag at Friday’s opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.
Rexhepi was supposed to carry the flag together with taekwondo fighter Dejan Georgievski, but will now have to miss the ceremony.
“Due to close contact with a person infected with COVID-19 on the flight from Frankfurt to Tokyo, the Macedonian judo fighter has been placed in partial isolation and in line with the rules of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) won’t be able to carry the Macedonian flag at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games,” the Macedonian Olympic Committee said in a press release on Thursday.
However, the release read, Rexhepi will continue to practice and compete in the Games.
