Rome, 14 May 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Coach Cesc Fàbregas has reportedly agreed to stay at Serie A club Como amid alleged interest from German sides Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig.
Sky Italia TV said on Tuesday that Fàbregas and Como have held positive talks, and reported a possible pay rise for the 38-year-old who has a contract until 2028.
Fàbregas, who won the World Cup and two Euros with Spain, ended his playing career at the northern Italian club and became their coach after promotion into the top flight last year. Como are 10th with three games left.
German double winners in 2024 Leverkusen are looking for a successor for Xabi Alonso who has announced his exit and will most likely take charge at Real Madrid. Twice German Cup winners Leipzig also need a new coach, with the spell of caretaker Zsolt Löw ending after the season.
Statements from Fàbregas last week had fuelled speculation he may be leaving Como.
"Whatever happens, I will always be grateful to the club for what it gave me. I am very proud of what has been built up in Como. I want to leave a legacy when I leave. My successor will find a strong club," he had said.
But Fabregas quickly insisted that this was not a farewell speech, saying: "No. No. I have always said this ... When the moment comes we will announce something."
