Rexhepi: Committee session not postponed but cancelled

Skopje, 5 September 2025 (MIA) - Committee on oversight of the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Intelligence Agency (IA) chairperson, Skender Rexhepi, said Friday that today's session was not postponed but cancelled, adding that he would proceed only in accordance with the Parliament's Rules of Procedures.

"We nearly witnessed a new scandal by the Parliament Speaker, who, like the Government's daily violations of the Constitution and laws, wanted to schedule a session while bypassing my position as committee chair," MP Rehxepi told a press conference.

According to him, Article 126 of the Rules of Procedures reads that the chair schedules the session at the request of one-third of committee members or at the request of the chair.

"I have not yet received any request and therefore the session was not postponed but cancelled, because it violates the Rules of Procedures. I will schedule the session once there is a request for this. We have become a banana state. How can a PM have information that he was under surveillance when there is a procedure of presenting classified information from the security services to the public. I will not be a part of this scandal," noted Rexhepi.

On not having a security clearance, Rexhepi said there is still no response why he and the deputy chair have no clearance for more than 10 months since assuming the post.

"In Slovenia, the MPs receive security clearance once elected. There is no need for vetting. The situation was the same for the Speaker, it went to a vote and he automatically got a security clearance, without being vetted," added Rexhepi.
