Retail prices higher, State Market Inspectorate head says

Skopje, 28 June 2025 (MIA) -- Most groceries have been 3-5% more expensive since April 30, when the government's price freeze ended, with the exception of cosmetics, baby food and diapers, the prices of which increased up to 20%, and fresh fruit and vegetables, the prices of which dropped "from 20 to 100%," State Market Inspectorate director Vlatko Stojkoski told a press conference Saturday.

"Wholesale prices are generally the same as before" the price freeze, Stojkoski said.

The SMI has submitted a report on the current prices to the Ministry of Economy and Labor, he said, after inspecting more than 100 retail and wholesale companies and more than 1000 stores.

The Ministry of Economy and Labor is expected to review the report and decide its next steps. mr/
