Skopje, 27 March 2024 (MIA) - The resident doctors who are protesting Wednesday outside the Ministry of Health requested an emergency meeting with the Minister of Health in order to address their demands. At the moment, a meeting is underway with representatives of the Ministry.
Resident doctors are demanding regulation of employment status, increase in monthly allowances, and health insurance coverage for all resident doctors.
“Should the minister persist in ignoring the requests of over 400 resident doctors, we will see frequent repetitions of today's protest. We will not halt until every demand is met,” Dr. Aleksandra Georgieva, leader of the Association of Resident Doctors, said.
During the protest, the demand was raised for a salary hike for private resident doctors in line with the current year's average salary of Mden 39.800, the reintroduction of free health insurance for all private resident doctors, and the timely remuneration of on-call duties alongside their monthly salaries.
Health insurance during the COVID-19 pandemic, as Georgieva pointed out, was introduced by the then-Minister Venko Filipche, but about a year and a half ago, it was abolished without explanation from the Ministry of Health.
