Regional forum in Skopje marks International Anti-Corruption Day

Skopje, 10 December 2025 (MIA) – To mark International Anti-Corruption Day, the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia in partnership with Sweden, Switzerland, the European Union and UNOPS is organizing Wednesday a regional forum titled “From policy to impact: Advancing integrity and institutional reforms in the Western Balkans”.

“The forum brings together justice ministers, heads of anti-corruption institutions, civil society representatives, media and international organizations from the Western Balkans. It is expected the forum to produce new commitments, enhanced coordination between the countries in the region and advanced approaches to the fight against corruption, including the use of technology and artificial intelligence,” said the office of Arben Fetai, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of good governance policies.

The forum will include four panels focusing on regional perspectives and coordinated international support for the promotion of good governance; increasing accountability and translating policies into measurable results; smart governance, digital tools and artificial intelligence in the fight against corruption; coordination between institutions of accountability and the role of the civil society and investigative journalism.

Participants are expected to adopt a joint declaration on commitments to integrity, anti-corruption efforts and regional cooperation in the Western Balkans, followed by closing addresses.

The event will see opening speeches by Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi, Deputy PM in charge of good governance Arben Fetai, Steffen Hudolin, Head of Cooperation in the EU Delegation to North Macedonia, the ambassadors of Sweden and Switzerland, Ola Sohlström and Christoph Sommer respectively, and Michela Telatin, Director of the UNOPS Office for South-eastern Europe.
