Ready to talk with Sofia but government’s position and red lines clear: PM

Skopje, 13 November 2025 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told journalists Thursday he is ready to sit down and talk about concrete steps to resolve the country's dispute with Bulgaria but noted that the government’s position on the issue and its red lines are well-known.

“Our position is very clear, the red lines are well-known, we have outlined those red lines on many occasions before. We are ready to sit down and talk, but it wouldn’t be right for someone to expect that this government, while I am Prime Minister, will suddenly say what we spoke so far is no longer valid, we will now sit down and adopt the constitutional amendments. At least, as long as I am Prime Minister. If someone else becomes Prime Minister, they are free to lead a different policy,” Mickoski said.

Mickoski said “such betrayals and capitulations” would not happen while he heads the country’s government.

On several occasions in the past, Mickoski has said the government he leads would not permit constitutional amendments as long as there are no concrete obligations from Bulgaria and clear guarantees from the European Union, while noting that he also expects a consistent implementation of international law as a prerequisite for progress.
